Worst Day Ever

Hey Team,

So this day started out so well. I went to my nutritionist, had a good week, made good progress, was happy. My paper was finished, the sun is shining.

Then I was at Trader Joe's checking out, and realized my wallet was gone.

Now for most people that's just a pain. For me that means that my phone, my ID (school and licence), my key, my credit cards, my cash, my insurance cards, a prescription I needed to fill, and quite a few memories (including a note I got from my late Mommy Mary from the day before she died) are all gone.

So I waited outside my doctor's office (she had gone for a run) to see if she had it. She didn't. So she let me call my mom and loaned me $10 so I could atleast get back to campus! I've already missed one class, I haven't eaten anything today, and have no money to buy food.
It seems that I dropped the wallet into the cab when I was getting out. Or dropped it in the street.

I just can't handle this.

Thank god for skype- I was able to call my mom again, and the people at security in my dorm let me in, but I just like don't know what to do. The only form of identification that I have is a photo copy of my Italian student visa! Sigh. I've been carrying my wallet like this for 4 years and have NEVER lost it. It is literally my entire life.

I just don't know what to do. Its like I just want to cry, but I'm not crying. Maybe it hasn't sunk in yet. (I've also never lost a phone, and never had to get all new numbers before). I will be phone-less for 4 days. Which means that I won't leave my computer or the internet ever because if I do I will have a panic attack.

I know that I need to now go to the office that does the student ID's so that I can get in buildings. Hopefully they will put some meals to the cafeteria on their for me so that I can get something to eat. Then I need to go get a new key to my room. My poor roommate will have to get a new one too- they will change the locks. Oh, and I still need to turn in my paper.

Then I'll just try to call every single cab company (of course I don't remember the name or number) in this huge city. Oh, and I'd just gone to the ATM yesterday- I highly doubt someone would give that back.

Like I said, one of the worst days ever.

Princess Kelley

  1. Hang in there beautiful, losing your wallet is a major pain in the ass, but you certainly seem to have a plan. Take a deep breath, everything will be OK. After getting another student ID, can you get some $$$ wired via Western Union perhaps? Then pick up a cheap tracphone as a stop-gap?

  2. Just saw this now -- A horrible thing to happen to anyone - happened to me several years ago and I was as upset as you are. Everything will be OK, it just takes some time to sort out. Take a deep breath and please reach out to me by email if you need any help at all with the logistics of this.

  3. Oh, poor Kelley (literally). I'm sorry this happened to you.

As you say, you know what to do. Make a list and check off each task as you complete it. Some things can't be replaced, but those that can should be back within a week or so.

Oh, and be sure to turn in that paper! :D

Big reassuring hugs because this will pass,

  4. Sorry to hear things went straight to hell today. Losing all that stuff sucks the big one.

I would suggest canceling your credit and debit cards right away and getting new ones issued. Once you get some money to buy a new phone you should be able to get your old number back, just as if you upgraded your phone. In a few days you'll have new keys, a new ID and this will all seem like a bad dream.

  5. I too am sorry to hear that you have lost your wallet and ID. That is indeed very upsetting. Definitely follow "anonymous"'s and Bonnie's advice and I think you are on the right track with your own. I hope you can get you wallet and everything else back.

You mentioned that when you were in Italy you developed an affinity, I think you called it, for St. Anthony of Padua. He is the Patron Saint of Lost Articles. Have a chat with him!

    Much love and affection
    *avuncular hug and forehead smooch

  6. I am really sorry to hear this has happened to you. :(
It happened also to me once and I know how bad that feels...
Maybe this will not make you feel better right now, but you might think about this episode sometime in the future as a reason for getting spanked...
In the meantime keep your head up, you'll see that everything will sort itself out!

  7. Princess,
Get to your bank and credi card companies ASAP. Don't go to class don't do anything else first. My daughter had her wallet lifted at school (thought she lost it too.) and 3 hours later:
    1) $9000 out of her accounts were taken
    2) 4 credit cards with $6000 in charges were opened

Because WE took quick action we were not responsible for anything but a lot of time lost and a lot of paper work.

  8. Have you tried calling your phone at all?? It's worth a shot, sometimes there are nice people in this world :) That is just awful though :( So sorry *HUGS

  9. My wife had her purse stolen after they smashed the window to our car. It sucks! I'm sorry to hear about your bad day.
